    The Future in PA

    HI

The future in Live Tour Sound And PA lies with this horn:

    1

The line array system used by almost evry one except Altec.

    Re: The Future in PA

The line array will be obsolete eventually and replaced by something else. It is absolutely not the future.

It is the flavor of the month, by that I mean it's popular now.

But I'm sorry. a statement that it's the be-all and end all is just plain silly. Audio technology still has a long way to go.

The other statement is everybody uses that horn, which is not true at all. SIMILAR horns maybe.

Do you realize that basic horn design was abandoned years ago and brought back? Didn't think so.

Everybody uses it but Altec? How could Altec build a line array when they are shut down? Geez...

Yeah, another one of those 'what was old is yet new again' concepts and having heard some of them as well as some of DSL's products, I believe the latter has far more chance of dominating the 'future' of both PA and at least high end HIFI/HT where SQ is preferred over a pretty 'face'.

I heard the future of P.A. is a surgically implanted "chip" in each audience member......

Tesla was on the track to more advanced technology where no chip is necessary.

I want a line array with an Aphex on it for my new stereo....life isn't irritating enough.

Licorne wasn't it you who said we all needed to get Aphexes?

Yes The Aphex Compellor that takes harmonics from low frequencies and reptoduces high frequencies. There's also stereo henancer. DBX sub harmonic reproducers. Expanders.

But imagine Altec Line array using the 3000 series as woofers and 4 8" transducers combined with 3 Altec HF 299 driversWITH BERRYLIUM DIAPHRAGM . The intelligibility and smoothness would outperfom JBL's Vertec
    and L acoustic Array system.

Yes but Aphex on stereo is a HORRIBLE idea. DBX has nothing to do with Aphex, but I still ain't gonna put artificial synthesizer stuff on my stereo. Some of us had companders 25 years ago, nothing new there.

What is your point in my reading that article? I already said everything important in it.

You also have to understand Dave Ratt (decent fellow BTW, I have worked with Ratt crews before) is a user not a design engineer.

I don't get a legitimate point from any of your arguments...a lot of info, but nothing coherent?

IMHO, the line array market is saturated. Were Altec to be revived, a line array could be the worst thing to build. It would have to be tremendous, something to make companies dump a product they thought was "good enough" at a loss.

If I had capital and were 15 years younger, and acquired Altec (how's that for a wish list?) I would concentrate on the small box market. A 12'' Duplex isn't much bigger than a Bose, and sounds way better. Altec already has a rep there, build on it instead of going all new.

An Altec array might sound better than JBL, but L-ACOUSTICS does that already, so what's the point?
